In order to help establish some uniformity in how radiologists read and interpret mammograms, the American College of Radiology set up a system of standards, the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BIRADS). BIRADS outlines six different possible mammogram results, ranging from a Category 0 to a Category 5. Radiologists report results with the BIRADS classification. A woman can be fairly confident that she will get the same interpretation of her mammogram, no matter where she has it done. |
