Breast Cancer

Lumpectomy Vs. Mastectomy

What is the difference between a lumpectomy and a mastectomy?

A lumpectomy is a breast-conserving surgery. In a lumpectomy, only the tumor and a small sample of the surrounding breast tissue are removed, but the breast is left otherwise intact.

In contrast, a mastectomy entails the surgical removal of the whole breast.
