No one knows for certain what causes breast cancer in men, but several factors are thought to increase a man's risk, including:
* Klinefelter's syndrome, a rare genetic condition
* Testicular dysfunction and other conditions causing hormone imbalances
* Previous radiation treatment to the chest
* Family history (male or female) of breast cancer, including some evidence that BRCA2 or possibly BRCA1 mutations may contribute to risk
* Age (the average age at diagnosis is 65) |
